Death Valley Rangers Tell People To Stop Frying Eggs

Some time, a good intention to tell people how bad it is can have an opposite consequence.

The Death Valley National Park authorities tried to show just how hot the temperature is there by frying an egg in a skillet using just the heat from the sun. The video was uploaded on YouTube, and that's when stupid amateurs from all over started flocking into Death Valley and attempted their own egg frying. Unfortunately, they created a mess.

“An employee's posting of frying an egg in a pan in Death Valley was intended to demonstrate how hot it can get here, with the recommendation that if you do this, use a pan or tin foil and properly dispose of the contents. However, the Death Valley NP maintenance crew has been busy cleaning up eggs cracked directly on the sidewalk, including egg cartons and shells strewn across the parking lot.

This is your national park, please put trash in the garbage or recycle bins provided and don’t crack eggs on the sidewalks, or the Salt Playa at Badwater. (nm)”

There are just stupid people out there, folks! They are the reason why the gene pool needs some chlorine.

Dining al fresco

It is a gorgeous evening in the Chicago area, especially after all that rain the past week. We are having our outdoor meal on the patio for the first time this year. Can't wait for the weather to get warmer for us to do this often.

Do You Have A Song Stuck In Your Head?

They have done a scientific research, and here's how you can get rid of that tune that's stuck in your head.

The trick, it seems, is to solve puzzles -- sudoku, for example. But by far the most effective puzzle was five-letter anagrams.

The reason for this, the researchers say, is that puzzles engage the brain just enough. The abstract from the study "Going Gaga: Investigating, Creating and Manipulating the Song Stuck in My Head" states:
"The return of intrusive songs depended on cognitive resources: people reported that intrusive songs returned during low cognitive load activities, and we found that overloading the cognitive systems with challenging activities increased intrusive song frequency."

So if I start humming "It's A Small World", you now know what to do.

Drug Deal Spoiled By 911 Butt Dial

I tell ya, you can't make these things up!

A drug deal was spoiled when one of the dealers accidentally butt dialed 911 on his cell phone, allowing the dispatcher to listen in to the drug deal.

As KGW-TV deals it, Raleigh Reynolds, 25, was allegedly about to participate in a narcotic business transaction.

Unfortunately (at least for him), police say a 911 dispatcher got to listen in on the proceedings, as Reynolods inadvertently called it in.
.
.
So, with the help of GPS technology, the call was traced to a back alley in Molalla, Ore., conveniently just one block from the police station.

The two suspects, a man and a woman, allegedly declared that no, they didn't have a cell phone. However, the Molalla police have quite some IQ. They spoke loudly and, lo, the dispatcher could hear their voices.
That is hysterical!

iPad Stand For Your Bathroom

OK, when I read and saw this in The Week, I was both envious and disgusted at the same time. It is an iPad stand for your bathroom, complete with a paper roll holder!

One part of me is saying "Oh my god, this is brilliant!" Instead of reading magazines, etc., I can now read whatever books/magazine I've downloaded, or even surf the web while I'm doing my business.

The other part of me thought it was repulsive, and even during such private moments, I will still be tethered to the rest of the world. Not only that, if you bring an iPad into your bathroom, you'd better make sure you wipe it clean before you take it out! I'm not a germaphobe, but ewwwwww!

I suppose this is no different than people who are already bringing their smartphones into bathrooms (especially at work and at shopping malls).

And oh, while you're at it (no, not while you're doing THAT!), don't miss this iPotty, also from the same company. You can potty train your child while he/she gets to play with an iPad.

OK, after all this, I need to go wash my hands.

The Heart Attack Grill DOES Give You A Heart Attack

Usually, truth in advertising is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, this is not the case this time.

It appears that the infamous Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas is living up to its name.

A regular patron and unofficial spokesman for the Heart Attack Grill has died of an apparent heart attack, the restaurant's owner said on Monday.

John Alleman reportedly suffered a heart attack last week outside the Las Vegas restaurant, according to the Las Vegas Sun. The 52-year-old was taken off life support on Monday.
It appears that this is not the first time this has happened.

Alleman is the second unofficial Heart Attack Grill spokesman to die in as many years.

In March 2011, Blair River, the restaurant's 575-pound representative, died from complications stemming from pneumonia. He was 29.
And of course, this amazing irony

Last February, a man reportedly suffered a heart attack while eating a “triple bypass burger." According to Las Vegas' Fox 5 affiliate, he survived.

Bon appetit!
