Fan Loses House Over A Soccer Match?

Again, you can't make these things up! It is just too freaking weird!

An Arsenal fan with three wives stood to gain another wife and a Toyota in a wager. Instead, he lost his house after betting that the Gunners would beat Manchester United last Sunday.

According to The MirrorHenry Dhabasani, who has five children from the three wives, wagered the deal with friend Rashid Yiga, who offered up his spouse and his car. The contract was reportedly signed into writing by the two men and witnessed by community leaders in the town of Iganga in eastern Uganda.

After Arsenal lost 1-0, several Manchester fans stormed Dhabasani’s two-room house and kicked his family out.

No, really! Over a soccer match that isn't even in their own country!

Some people have lost all sense of reality.

C'mon, Knock Me Out, I Dare Ya!

There's poetic justice in something like this, when one is arrogant enough to leave oneself open.

This boxer was taunting his opponent to hit him and letting his guard down. He got what he asked for. He got hit and knocked unconscious!

Would love to hear what he had to say when they revived him him.

Oh, He Missed A Spot!

So you spray-tan yourself all over your body, but you missed really the most obvious spot!

It does look rather odd, even comical.

It turns out that this isn't that uncommon, as seen in this video.

I guess many of them just don't want to spray their faces. But still, when you have that deep of a tan, and your face/head is pale while, it looks VERY strange!

Unbelievable Volleyball Rally

Holy cow! I got tired just from watching it!

The sad part at the end was that, most of the crowd were cheering/clapping, but they were still stuck to their seats! If this were in the US or Europe, the crowd would have been on their feet giving these players standing ovations. What does it take for the Chinese fans to give a standing ovation? Someone has to die or something?

Do You Have To Protest Against Fossile Fuel In The Nude?

I guess doing it in the nude gets you media coverage that would otherwise have been another ho-hum event.

Cyclist in Portland this past week celebrated the, wait for it, World Naked Bike Ride event, by riding bikes, you guessed it, naked.

World Naked Bike Ride is a globally observed event among hard-core bikers designed, at least ostensibly, to promote the use of the bicycle for transportation. But Portland cyclists have been especially adamant about making it another of the Pacific Northwest city's quirky traditions.

"This is just a way of drawing attention to the need to be more green and replace fossil fuels with natural power," said Ken Johnson, who was completely nude and body-painted grey.
.
.
.
The purpose of the naked rides, SHIFT says, is "a light-hearted protest against fossil fuel. ... A comment on the vulnerability of cyclists. Choose your message, ride with us! As bare as you dare."

So, other than to garner publicity, I don't see any direct reason why one would want to ride in the nude. Besides, do these people aware on how those bikes were made in the first place? You don't think fossil fuel was used in the manufacturing of those bikes, do you?

Come to think of it, maybe they are in the nude so that they don't wear nylons and spandex, etc., all synthetic fabrics that could have been made out of hydrocarbons. Hum... why not do a World Nude Walking event? Use of less material that could have been constructed using fossil fuel.

Fate of Paul, the Psychic Octopus

Now that the World Cup is over and he had done so well, the owner of Paul, the psychic octopus is pondering what else that creature can do.

Sea Life, which operates 32 aquariums across Europe, said it hoped to make an announcement on Tuesday about Paul's future. However spokesman Mark Oakley stressed that the mystic mollusc would certainly be staying in his tank in Germany.

"We've been inundated with offers -- from a betting conglomerate that wants to use him to predict sporting events to a Japanese fortune telling company that wants to use his image on the sides of booths," Oakley told CNN. "There have also been many offers from media worldwide for Paul's lifestory.

I'm surprised the owner hasn't asked it to pick a lottery number. Or maybe he has, and the octopus didn't do well? Maybe he's only good at sports betting.

Grilled octopus with a squeeze of lemon is delicious, by the way....

2016 Olympics Bid

So many people here in Chicago are paying a very close attention to today's vote on the city that will host the 2016 Olympics. Being a Chicagoan, and knowing how much I love the city, of course I have a vested interest in the decision. Am I rooting for Chicago to win? Hum..... good question!

On the one hand, of course I am! It would be a tremendous honor to host the Olympics. I'm proud of the city and hope more people can come and visit and discover all the amazing things about the city itself. It can be as big, as busy, and as hectic as New York, but without the attitude and with pedestrians still obeying the pedestrian traffic signal (well, most of them anyway). Many first-timers to the city are always surprised at how friendly and how beautiful the city is, especially if they get to Grant Park and the lakefront.

But on the other hand, I'm dreading the traffic gridlock. While this may not be a factor for me by 2016 (I'm in the process of buying a house and moving out of Lakeview and into the near 'burbs), I can only imagine how it might work out, especially in the downtown area. And I still want to know how the public transportation (with the CTA trains and busses) are going to handle all the heavy volume of people. Riding the CTA trains, for example, can be a frustrating experience.

Oh well, we will know in a few hours if Chicago gets the bid or not. I think Rio makes a very strong case that it is time for the Olympics to make its first visit to South America.

Cubs Going Nowhere This Year

Sign of the times. The souvenir stores around Wrigley field are trying to dump their Cubs merchandise. The Chicago Cubs aren't going anywhere this year after a dismal season.

So if you want at least 20% off of Cubs merchandise, this is the time to get it!
